Fun Run De-Brief

Dear Tri Babes,

What a great day!!!! Talk about a "Pink Presence!!!" It was so exciting to watch all of you cross the finish line at the Fun Run today. You rooked mahvahluss!!! I promise that with today's success under your designer belt, you are comPLETEly assured of eventual triathlon success in 2009. If you were able to take today's "baby step," you can take the next step at our Lake Orientation and First Brick this week.

Newbies, I know that some of you find it unfathomable that YOU can do this but I promise that today's success is the tiny flake that will snowball beyond your wildest imaginations of your abilities.

Vets, I know that simply because you have succeeded once does not mean you are comPLETEly confident that you will succeed again. Please give yourself more credit. You HAVE done this; you WILL do this again. And, there is no shame in making this be a "good enough" year rather than a "personal record" year. Something is ALWAYS better than nothing. So, no matter what your level of involvement, your participation WILL pay you important fitness dividends.

Special thanks need to go out to
Donna Wagner AND her wonderful mother for helping my friend, Diane, staff the Tri Babe booth today AND for making Tri Babe bumper stickers available to all of you. I also want to thank Pam and Dave Kiesel for agreeing to step in and help with the Kid's Dashes at the last minute -- not many people are willing to wrangle toddlers upon a moment's notice. Even fewer are capable of doing so WELL!!!

Enough about YOU . . . your Tri Turtle had some major accomplishments today. First, I quelled a fruit uprising!!! At the 23rd hour, I was tasked with finding 4 tweens who would don fruit costumes at today's event. I managed to accomplish this but then, when they showed up this morning, all four tweens said that they didn't want to be a fruit -- imagine that!!! It took quite a bit of "negotiating" to pull them back into the "Fitness Fruit Fold!!!"

BUT . . . my MOST important accomplishment was that I got a Puma to hug me!!!! Yes, one of those soccer playing, amazing smelling, adorable men, with the titillating accents actually TOUCHED me . . . of HIS own accord!!!! I
was rather sly though. At the beginning of the 3.1 mile event, I "noticed" that the adorable Pumas were yelling and teasing one of their own, who was running, so I said, "if you give me some juicy details, I'll make sure that I embarrass him when he crosses the finish line since I have microphone duty." The adorable Puma immediately put his arm around me and said, "I like you already." I am hoping that neither the Puma nor . . . what's his name? You know, that guy I have spawned two children and spent the last 27 years of my life with? . . . hmmmmm . . . . David . . . that's his name -- I hope neither he NOR the Puma noticed the drool coming from my mouth.

Fine . . . back to YOU!!! Your success today means you are comPLETEly ready to take the next step which is to come to the Lake Swim Orientation. I will look forward to seeing you at either 7:30a.m. OR 7:30p.m. this Tuesday at Wildcat Lake.
Calm down . . . Dane and I have already been in the lake multiple times. It is NOT unreasonable given all the wonderful weather we have had. It is even able to be entered without a wetsuit -- Vet Corri Olsen says so!!!! And, we won't REALLY be doing any actual swimming. We will learn the TRIed and true technique for entering cold water called "The Merry March," we will luxuriate in the "starfish float" -- the technique that will allow you to rest under distress in the water. And, we will practice the "save and be saved" maneuver which will teach us how to allow ourselves to be aided in the water -- if needed. There will be a lot of getting in, getting out, getting back in, etc. so that you can get over the most difficult aspect of open water swimming -- effectively entering the water for ultimate swimming success.

Vets . . . if you want to swim, you can swim "laps" around us.

I can't wait to see you this Tuesday . . . Lisa Be still drooling
