Kitsap TriBabes
6/20 Brick De-Brief
Dear Tri Babes,
What a Brick!!!! When things begin with a Tri Babe arriving via firetruck, you know it is going to be an interesting day, at the very
least! The good news is that the injured Tri Babe in question is recovering nicely at home with injuries in the "annoying" rather
than "life threatening" category. The great news is that you contributed $84.60 to the YWCA Alive Shelter via Pink Purse
Power. Thank you very much.
The STUPENDOUS, AMAZING NEWS is that while we were all Bricking to our hearts' content, Dane was at Cascades Edge
Triathlon garnering his very first overall win!!!! My “reverse psychology” worked perfectly. I told him Friday night that he was
NOT allowed to win the event since I wouldn't be there to witness it and he was NOT allowed to experience his first triathlon
victory without me. He came out of the water in 4th place, passed one person in transition and had taken the overall lead by
the end of the 1st mile on the bike. From there, he held his ground and finished in a time of 1:02:38 -- 28 seconds ahead of his
competition!!! (Oh to live in a triathlon world where seconds rather than hours measure progress!!!)
Back at the ranch, however, all of you were doing the pinkest of jobs. We had 150 successful completers. I have no idea
who the “Lapin Award” winner was since she raced past me in such a blur but I THINK it was Pam Warner. Thanks so
much for heeding Priscilla’s pink proclamations. It seems like the Wave Leader system worked well. So, we will most likely
continue to implement it for at least a few weeks. If you have NOT watched the Priscilla Pink video on youtube, please do so --
it will help you improve your bike safety skills. I was HORRIFIED to learn that I am not the only person on youtube who has
adopted the Priscilla Pink alter ego. Apparently, the next video after mine is more aptly named “Priscilla Porn.” I just want to go
on the record as saying, “I have NO connection with that production!!!”
I honestly think that your ability to "pedal the pink way" will be most helped by attending the Biking Clinic. This FREE EVENT
will be held on Sunday June 28th at Silverdale Cyclery from 3:00-6:00p.m. Stop by anytime during these hours. Not only
will owner, Dave Brumsickle, offer store discounts (10% on bikes; 20% on merchandise; 50% on selected sale items) but we
will have instructional “stations” where you can learn about the following: 1) how to properly adjust and fit your bike; 2) how
to use your gears effectively; 3) how to put your chain back on; 4) how to clean your bike; 5) how to pump and change a flat
tire – plus some yummy treats!!!
Angela Bennink definitely earned the “You *&%$ing ROCK” Award for surviving her encounter with a wayward dog with
courage, humor, and aplomb. Alysson Willoughby & Friend earned the “Creative, Capricious, Comedic Costuming”
Award with their (unrepeatable in print) homemade shirts. And, Newbie Terry Harter took home this week’s coveted
“Maillot Rose” Award. She had a slew of Tri Babes accompanying her. Thanks to Michelle Knecht and Heather
Borggard for “making the Maillot” such a pleasure for Terry today.
Many thanks to ALL of today’s registration and course volunteers: Pam Kiesel, Gary Cree, Christopher, Pete Braun, Ken
Cox, David Kiesel, Bill Beatty, Keith Willoughby, Tina D’Astoli, and Gary Daniel. And, to all of our Wave Leaders: Barb
Gregerson, Andrea Bastien, Michele Knecht, Sarah Lee, Beth Leone-Mullins, Robin Simmons, Tara Scouten, &
Pam Warner. (Cyndy Ayers says that Wave 8 was “pinkly perfect!!!”)
At last Tuesday's Lake Swim, "Lady of the Lake" honors go to Veteran Celeste Cornish. For this first time ever, she
swam the freestyle crawl WITH her head in the water!!!!!
