7/11 Brick De-Debrief

Dear Tri Babes,

Well, it seems like (almost) EVERYone is happy. David is (literally) doing a little happy dance since his "loop de loop" run course worked so well. I am thrilled to learn that you respond so positively to hard core guilt tactics (the incredible numbers of you who chose to park at Christian Worship Center indicated this). Many of you indicated that you were very happy with the Brick course. Even dogs were dancing. Judy Hopkins's husband had their two little Dachshunds decked out in pink bandannas and they ran up the final hill with Judy!!! So, I'd say it was a highly successful day!!! Vet
Carol Riehl earned Lapin Honors; LaDonna Shuh garnered the highly coveted "Maillot Rose!!!"

We raised $200.33 to contribute to the Ocean Conservancy in honor of Mike McClurkan. I will hold off making the actual donation until the end of the week. Several of you emailed me and said tat you weren't able to be at the Brick but wanted to donate. So, please send your donation to: Tri Turtle Wellness, 2801 Cantu Ln. N.W. Seabeck, WA 98380. Make sure you indicate on the check that it is for Mike McClurkan. I will make one lump on-line donation from the Tri Turtle Wellness account at the end of the week.

According to the sign-in sheet we were
131 Tri Babes strong!!! The day brought out lots of volunteers to thank: Billy Beatty, Keith Willoughby and Dave Kiesel AS ALWAYS!!!! But, we also had lots of new helping faces for whom I am very grateful: Juan, James Blaser, Gary Cree, Aaron Espy, George Simms, Martin Petters, Gary Simmons, David Harter, Ronda and Jeremy Stephens, LeAnne and McKenna Kendall. Last but never least, the VERY ORIGINAL TRI BABE, Kelly Cole showed up in the ORIGINAL Team Jersey -- a pink cotton tank top with "Seabeck Bunco Babes" emblazoned upon it!!! Thanks to all the new faces who agreed to be Wave Leaders. It seems like the system is working -- each week, I get a few new women willing to take on this role so that we don't have to exhaust our "old faithfuls" and cheat them out of their own training experience.

The only person not comPLETEly happy is Dane. (un)Fortunately, he built more character than credentials at his Triathlon in Florida this week-end. His actual performance was decent, not stellar -- he came in 2nd in his age division and Top Thirty overall out of a field of 1000. His actual time was 1:06. He came out of the water in 18th place overall; gained 14th place on the bike; then "bonked" on the run thanks to the heat. His average pace was a "horrid" 6:30 mile. Adding insult to injury, he got his first penalty -- a two minute time deduction for a "position" penalty. This took him down to 4th in his age division and top 100 overall. AND, I am JUST now learning that he spent some time in the medical tent -- minor overheating. At least he had the good sense to take HIMSELF to the medical tent when he noticed that he had stopped sweating and was getting the chills. The good news is that (pre-penalty) he did well enough in his age division to get an invitation to the World Junior Championships in Australia in September. I don't see this actually happening, but . . .

The HILARIOUS news is that my brother got DISQUALIFIED for wearing his aqua socks!!! Don't worry, Danksin and TTT will allow them (as long as they are NOT flippers!!!)

Anyway . . . I'll send out details on everything you need to know for this week asap . . . I look forward to seeing you at the swim. We will be practicing Mass Starts!!! Yippee!!!
