"The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start."
Kitsap TriBabes
Week-end update for July 18th and 19th
Dear Tri Babes,
You MORE than achieved you triathlon credentials at the Brick on Saturday. Great job to all of you who
embraced the "A's" and "B's" but NOT the "C's" of going up short steep hills. I know this is a difficult
biking skill. But, I promise that if you keep working on this, you will dramatically improve your biking ability
and you WILL get better. Make sure that during your individual bike ride, you keep playing with your gears
and experimenting with gearing techniques and strategies. The goal is to be able to capitalize on
downward momentum and use your gears to help you get up ills as effectively as possible. Remember
that you will e most effective when you are spinning as fast as you can, in the hardest gear possible, no
matter what the terrain is. To create this scenario, you must constantly change your gears so that you
can adjust as te road terrain adjusts.
As is coming to be expected, Sarah Lee earned our Lapin Award. LaDonna Shuh earned the Maillot Rose.
And, as is definitely coming to be expected . . . our volunteers were fabulous. Thanks to ALL!!! I had
several people email me and say how wonderful Brayden, our bike dismount volunteer, was as well as
Robin Simmons, our final bike wave leader was.
We had many Tri Babes earning credentials by doing actual Triathlons rather than the Brick. Our "You
&%$#ing ROCK" Award must go out to Bobbi Busch who not only comPLETEd her FIRST HALF

Finally, I need to brag a little and inform you that Dane DEFINITELY built some credentials this week-end.
He competed in the Seafair triathlon on Sunday. This was the first triathlon in which he competed in
the Elite Wave. This means that he got to start in the very first wave. They only allow "really good people"
into this wave. We had to email the race director with his past race credentials in order to get him
admitted to this Elite Wave (in which he was competing against PROFESSIONAL triathletes). There were
1500 people total participating in Seafair and 70 people in the Elite Wave. Dane exited the swim tied for
11th place; he finished the bike in 9th place; left the second transition in 8th place and was the 7th
person to cross the finish line!!! His overall time was 1:02 for a Sprint Distance Triathlon. If he HAD
competed in his 15 year old age division, he would have won it by 7 minutes. His time was the 9th fastest
in the entire race!!! I had a blast cheering for him and, as you can imagine, am so proud of him I could
burst!!!
Don't worry, though, I am still your tri TURTLE committed to the success of the "back of the packers!!!"
~ Lisa Be looking forward to seeing you soon . . .
